Management
"School counselors should possess the knowledge, abilities, skills and attitudes necessary to deliver a school counseling program aligning with the ASCA National Model."
Management is important for maintenance and improvements to the school counseling program. The school counselor can manage the school counseling program by self-evaluating their strengths and areas for improvement and by utilizing a use of time assessment to identify the amoutn of time spent towards the goal of 80 percent indreicvet and direct services with students. To ensure that students, parents, teachers and administrators are notified of school counseling programs school counselors should create annual and weekly calendars of counseling activities to ensure active participation in the schools. In addition, school cousnelors collaborate with administrators, parents, students and teachers to identify areas for improvements and obtain recommendatinos for teh school cousneling program, to do so annual aggreements and advisory councils are used to accomplish this. Annual aggreements are developed with and approved by the adminstration aththe start of the school year to address goals of teh school cousenling program and the organization of the prograam. Advisory councils are used to examine the school counseling programs results and activities and to make applicable suggestions. Advisory councils consist of administrators, parents, teachers, school counselors and students to make suggestions accordingly. School counselors also create action plans that address activities and services that impact student attendance, behavior and achievement and help to close the achievement gap for all students. lastly, to effectively assess the programs results data must be collected and reviewed to make changes within.
